Praia dos Pescadores, Armação de Pêra: the beach guide

Praia dos Pescadores is the fishermen's stretch of Armação de Pêra's bay, in the zone of the old fortress, and Silves council has confirmed its location there in its own coastal clean-up and beach-library notices.¹² It is a short walk from all four of our apartments and a two-minute walk from Beachfront Apartment 4F, it is the part of the beach where the town's working history is still visible, and it is where we send guests on their first evening.

How do you get there from each apartment?

The walk is flat, along the promenade or the seafront road.

Beachfront Apartment 4F is by a wide margin the closest of the four to this stretch, because Praia dos Pescadores is at the eastern end of the bay and 4F is the eastern-most of our flats. Distances are walking routes measured on OpenStreetMap data on 17 September 2026, to the sand beside the fort.³ Every one of our apartments has parking included, so we would walk.⁴

What is it like?

This is the oldest part of the beach and it still reads like it. Painted wooden boats sit on the sand above the tide line. Nets get mended. The chapel and the fort stand on the low bluff behind, and the whole thing has a working feel that the middle of the bay, with its sunbeds and ice creams, does not.

It is the same continuous sand as the rest of Praia de Armação de Pêra, so you can walk from one to the other without leaving the beach. What changes is the atmosphere and the company.

Come at seven in the morning and you will see boats going out. Come at seven in the evening and the light on the fort is the reason people take the photograph they end up framing.

Does Praia dos Pescadores have the Blue Flag?

No. The 2026 Blue Flag list for the municipality of Silves names two sites, Praia de Armação de Pêra and Praia Grande Poente, and Praia dos Pescadores is not one of them.⁵

One thing to be clear about, because it has caused confusion this year. In April 2026 the Algarve press reported that a Praia dos Pescadores had lost its Blue Flag. That beach is the Praia dos Pescadores in Albufeira, a different beach of the same name in a different municipality.⁶ Ours is not on the 2026 list and was not withdrawn from it.

The main Armação de Pêra beach, which is the same sand a few hundred metres along, does hold the 2026 Blue Flag along with the 'Praia Acessível' award and the Quercus 'Qualidade de Ouro' seal for bathing water.⁷

Is there a beach library?

Yes, in summer. Silves council installs its Biblioteca de Praia on Praia dos Pescadores, bringing the municipal library to the beach with books, newspapers, magazines, games and activities. It also lends books to take away, up to two per person for five days. It runs seasonally, between June and August.²

It is one of the nicest small things the council does, and it is free.

Where do you park?

In the public car park that opened beside the beach on 1 July 2025, on the site of the old 'As Gaivotas' football ground east of the town. It has 290 spaces, of which 8 are for people with reduced mobility, 4 are electric-vehicle charging bays, 8 are for motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles, one is for a coach, one is for emergency vehicles, one is for public bodies and five are reserved for members of the Associação de Pescadores de Armação de Pêra. It has an automatic entry and payment system and video surveillance, runs 24 hours a day with an attendant on site, and use is charged according to the season and the length of stay. The council notes that the car park is operated by a private company. Tree planting to shade the vehicles was planned as part of the scheme.⁸

That car park is about 210 metres on foot from Beachfront Apartment 4F and about 800 metres to a kilometre from the other three flats, so if you are staying with us it is a place to send visiting friends rather than somewhere you will need yourself.³

When is the bathing season?

Praia dos Pescadores is part of the same bay as Praia de Armação de Pêra, whose bathing season runs from 1 June to 30 September 2026.⁹ We have not found a separate published bathing season for the Pescadores stretch, so we are not going to state one.

What is nearby?
