Beaches in and around Armação de Pêra
Armação de Pêra sits at the point where the Algarve's long sandy bays meet its cliff coves. Five beaches lie within about 4 km of our apartments: Armação de Pêra, Pescadores, Vale do Olival, Cova Redonda and Senhora da Rocha. Three of them flew the Blue Flag in 2026.
Five beaches lie within about 4 km of our four apartments in Armação de Pêra, and three of them flew the Blue Flag in 2026: Praia de Armação de Pêra in the municipality of Silves, and Praia da Senhora da Rocha and Praia do Vale do Olival in the municipality of Lagoa.1 This page is the index. Each beach has its own page with the walking distance from every one of our flats, the parking situation and what the place is actually like.
We live and work here and we send guests to these beaches every week, so the descriptions are ours. The awards, seasons and distances are sourced and footnoted.
Why these five?
Because they are the ones you can reach without planning a day around it. Armação de Pêra sits at a joint in the coastline. East of the town the coast runs flat and sandy for miles towards Salgados and Galé. West of the town the cliffs start, and within a few kilometres you are in the ochre coves that people fly to the Algarve to photograph. Staying here gives you both within a short walk or a very short drive.
If you want the wider list, including Praia da Marinha and the beaches around Albufeira, our older post covers ten of them: Top 10 beaches near Armação de Pêra.
The five beaches
Praia de Armação de Pêra: the town beach, and the one every apartment looks out over. A long, wide, flat bay facing south. Blue Flag 2026, 'Praia Acessível' for access by people with reduced mobility, and the Quercus 'Qualidade de Ouro' seal for bathing-water quality.12 Bathing season 1 June to 30 September 2026.3 Between a few seconds and a little over 200 metres from our four apartments, a walk of under four minutes.4
Praia dos Pescadores: the fishermen's stretch towards the eastern end of the same bay, by the old fort, where the painted boats are drawn up on the sand. Silves council installs its Biblioteca de Praia here between June and August.5 A new 290-space public car park opened beside it in July 2025.6 About 170 to 800 metres on foot from our flats, with Beachfront Apartment 4F the closest at about 170 metres.4
Praia do Vale do Olival: the first beach west of the bay, over the low headland. Turismo do Algarve describes it as a beach of extensive sand with gentler cliffs, bordering the bay of Armação de Pêra.7 Blue Flag 2026, in the municipality of Lagoa.1 About 800 metres on foot from Penthouse 1.4
Praia da Cova Redonda: a small cove reached by a long flight of Portuguese cobbled steps, with calm water and cliffs the colour of toasted flour.7 Not on the 2026 Blue Flag list.1 About 2.8 km and about 5 minutes by car from Penthouse 1.4
Praia da Senhora da Rocha: the headland with the chapel on it, which Turismo do Algarve calls one of the Algarve's finest tourist postcards; the chapel itself was classified as a property of public interest in 1963.7 Blue Flag 2026, in the municipality of Lagoa.1 About 3 km and about 6 minutes by car from Penthouse 1.4 Our long guide to it is An Algarvian's guide to Praia da Senhora da Rocha.
Which beaches have the Blue Flag in 2026?
Three of the five: Praia de Armação de Pêra, Praia do Vale do Olival and Praia da Senhora da Rocha.1 Praia dos Pescadores and Praia da Cova Redonda are not on the 2026 list, which reflects the award criteria and the facilities audited, not the water.
It is worth knowing how thin the Silves list is. In 2026 the whole municipality has two Blue Flag beaches, Armação de Pêra and Praia Grande Poente, against 24 in Albufeira and 6 in Lagoa.1 Silves has far fewer beaches than Albufeira, not worse ones.
Care with one piece of news doing the rounds: the Praia dos Pescadores that lost its Blue Flag in 2026 is the beach of that name in Albufeira, not ours.8
When is the bathing season?
At Praia de Armação de Pêra the bathing season runs from 1 June to 30 September 2026, and the Blue Flag season runs for the same dates.3 At Praia da Senhora da Rocha and Praia do Vale do Olival the bathing season is also 1 June to 30 September 2026, with the Blue Flag season running from 1 July to 30 September 2026.910
Outside those dates the beaches are open, beautiful and unsupervised. We swim in October. We would not put a child in the water in February without thinking about it.

Where do you park?
At Praia dos Pescadores, in the 290-space public car park that opened on 1 July 2025 on the site of the old 'As Gaivotas' football ground, east of the town. It has 8 spaces for people with reduced mobility, 4 electric-vehicle charging bays, 8 spaces for motorcycles and bicycles, one coach space, video surveillance and an on-site attendant, and it runs 24 hours a day. Use is charged by season and length of stay, and the car park is operated by a private company.6
At Senhora da Rocha, OpenStreetMap records car parks immediately behind the beach, one of them tagged as free.11 At Vale do Olival and Cova Redonda there are car parks off the access roads. None of them is large, and in August none of them is a plan.
Our honest advice: if you are staying with us, walk. Every one of our apartments has parking included, and three of the five beaches are a walk rather than a drive. Our post on getting around Armação de Pêra without a car covers the rest.
Beyond the five
Praia da Marinha, Benagil and Algar Seco are 15 to 25 minutes west by car and worth every minute. We have written them up separately: Benagil Cave without crowds, Benagil sea cave, the first trip we suggest and Algar Seco, a first-week guide. East of town, the boardwalk over the Salgados lagoon is a flat, easy walk with real birdlife: Armação de Pêra boardwalk and lagoon guide.
All four Caravelis apartments are in Armação de Pêra and all four look out on the same bay. The closest to the sand are Penthouse 1 and Algarve Oceanfront Luxury Penthouse 2 at Edifício Marany, Rua das Caravelas 7, both seconds from the sand of Praia de Armação de Pêra, a walk of a few seconds. Beachfront Apartment 4F on Avenida do Rio is 140 metres, about two minutes. Beach Apartment 7G on Av. General Humberto Delgado is a little over 200 metres, about four minutes.12

- Which beach in Armação de Pêra has the Blue Flag?
Praia de Armação de Pêra, the main town beach. It is one of only two Blue Flag sites in the whole municipality of Silves in 2026, the other being Praia Grande Poente in the freguesia of Pêra.1
- Is Armação de Pêra beach sandy or pebbly?
Sandy. OpenStreetMap records the whole bay as a sand beach, and it is a long, wide, flat stretch rather than a cove.11 Last verified: 17 September 2026.
- How many beaches are within walking distance of the apartments?
Three: Praia de Armação de Pêra (between a few seconds and a little over 200 metres depending on the flat, a walk of under four minutes), Praia dos Pescadores (about 170 to 800 metres) and Praia do Vale do Olival (about 800 metres to 1.4 km).412 Cova Redonda and Senhora da Rocha are walkable at about 2 to 4 km but most guests drive.
- Are the beaches supervised all year?
No. The bathing season at Praia de Armação de Pêra runs from 1 June to 30 September 2026, and the same dates apply at Senhora da Rocha and Vale do Olival.3910 Outside those dates the beaches are open but the season has ended.
- Which beach is best with young children?
Our view is Praia de Armação de Pêra, because it is flat, wide, a short level walk from all four flats, and it holds the 'Praia Acessível' award for access by people with reduced mobility.2 The cove beaches west of town involve steps.
- Can I reach the Lagoa cove beaches without a car?
Vale do Olival, yes, on foot over the headland. For Cova Redonda and Senhora da Rocha it is a 2 to 4 km walk each way along the coast road, which is fine in spring and hard work in August.
