Praia do Vale do Olival: the beach guide
Praia do Vale do Olival is the first beach west of Armação de Pêra's bay, in the municipality of Lagoa. Turismo do Algarve calls it a beach of extensive sand with gentler cliffs. It flew the Blue Flag in 2026 and is about 800 metres on foot from our Edifício Marany penthouses.
Praia do Vale do Olival is the first beach west of the Armação de Pêra bay, in the municipality of Lagoa, it flew the Blue Flag in 2026, and it is about 800 metres on foot from our two penthouses at Edifício Marany, roughly an eleven-minute walk.123 Turismo do Algarve describes it in one line as a beach of extensive sand with gentler cliffs, bordering the bay of Armação de Pêra.4 That is the point of it. You get a Blue Flag cove-coast beach without the staircase and without the drive.
How do you get there from each apartment?
Walk if you can. It is the best short walk in the town.
| Apartment | On foot | Walking time | By car |
|---|---|---|---|
| Penthouse 1, Edifício Marany | About 800 m | About 11 minutes | About 850 m, about 3 minutes |
| Algarve Oceanfront Luxury Penthouse 2, Edifício Marany | About 830 m | About 11 minutes | About 850 m, about 3 minutes |
| Beachfront Apartment 4F, Avenida do Rio | About 1.4 km | About 18 minutes | About 2.2 km, about 4 minutes |
| Beach Apartment 7G, Av. General Humberto Delgado | About 860 m | About 11 minutes | About 1.1 km, about 2 minutes |
Distances and times are route figures measured on OpenStreetMap data on 17 September 2026, to the nearest point of the beach polygon.3 All four apartments include parking, but for a beach eleven minutes away we would leave the car where it is.5
What is it like?
Wide, long for a cove-coast beach, and backed by cliffs that are lower and softer than the ones further west. That is exactly what Turismo do Algarve's description captures.4 It feels like a transition: the last of the big open sand before the coast breaks up into the small ochre coves at Cova Redonda, Beijinhos and Senhora da Rocha.
The practical consequence is space. Vale do Olival takes a crowd better than the coves do, which is why it is the beach we suggest when guests want something quieter than the town beach but do not want to spend the afternoon looking for a towel-sized gap.
Access from the eastern side is over the low headland from Armação de Pêra, which is a proper walk with a view rather than a scramble.
Does it have the Blue Flag?
Yes, in 2026. Praia do Vale do Olival is one of six Blue Flag sites in the municipality of Lagoa this year, alongside Caneiros, Carvoeiro, Ferragudo, Senhora da Rocha and Vale Centeanes.1 Its beach code in the Blue Flag register is PTCJ8F.2
When is the bathing season?
The bathing season runs from 1 June 2026 to 30 September 2026, and the Blue Flag season runs from 1 July 2026 to 30 September 2026.2
That one-month gap is worth planning around. In June the bathing season has started but the flag has not yet gone up. If you want the full Blue Flag season, come in July, August or September.

Where do you park?
OpenStreetMap records car parks off the access road above the beach, the nearest of them a few hundred metres back from the sand.6 None is tagged with a fee, so we make no claim about cost. They are modest in size and they fill in August.
If you are staying with us, this is the clearest case on the whole coast for walking. Eleven minutes from the Marany penthouses, no steps, no parking hunt.
Tide and sand
The sand is extensive by the standards of this stretch, so the beach copes with the tide better than the small coves do. We have no published figures for how the usable width changes, and we are not going to estimate. Check a tide table for Portimão on the day.
Which municipality is it in, and does that matter?
Vale do Olival is in the municipality of Lagoa, while Armação de Pêra is in Silves.7 Visiting costs you nothing extra. Where it matters is accommodation: Lagoa charges a municipal tourist tax on overnight stays, in every month of the year, and Silves charges none,9 which is set out on our tourist tax page and compared town by town in Armação de Pêra or Carvoeiro?.
What is nearby?
Going west, the coves begin: Praia da Cova Redonda is about 760 metres on and Praia da Senhora da Rocha about 1.3 km, measured between the nearest edges of the sand.8 Going east, you are back on Praia de Armação de Pêra and the promenade. Everything in one place is on our beaches hub, and the wider ten-beach list is in Top 10 beaches near Armação de Pêra.
